Yellow-headed Blackbird Xanthocephalus xanthocephalus

  Happy Seolnal!

Oops, almost forgot that a few weeks ago I went for an off-island expedition with George. It was cold enough to freeze bone-marrow. We caught up with a disoriented Yellow-headed Blackbird that was hanging out with an unseasonal flock of Red-winged Blackbirds. We also spent a few minutes with a Northern Hawk Owl that was perched above a main country thoroughfare. We hunched behind a parked car and watched as it scanned the snowy fields constantly for sub-surface prey.
